Muhu Jäätise Wabrik (Muhu Ice Cream Factory) is a small business located on the Muhu island. It is like a one-man band because all of the activities are reliant on one man, whereas the success is up to the whole family. There are no major plans – the most important thing is that ice cream has been made with joy thus far. Why is it called Wabrik (an old version of the Estonian word vabrik, meaning a factory)? That is because the ice cream is made on a farm passed down within the family throughout 9 generations – in Anduvälja farm. The farm has a history of valuing the beauty of working and the importance of quality. This also helps remember the good times that have been had on the farm. The logo is from a wedding quilt, passed down from generation to generation. Anduvälja farmlands also include Üügu bank – a sacred place for the Muhu islanders. It’s a place where nature welcomes you in silence, offering beautiful views, interesting journeys and peace of mind. The products of Muhu Jäätise Wabrik are also inspired by this nature. This year, the “Vanillijäätis Muhu leivaga” by Muhu Jäätise Wabrik received the title of Oma Maitse best milk product of 2022. There are also other products in the range – chocolate ice cream and quite a few sorbets like raspberry, sea buckthorn, spruce shoot, rhubarb, and also the favourite of many – wild strawberry sorbet. The wild strawberry sorbet can only be produced in July and August due to the short season of the berry. All of the products have one thing in common – they are not too sweet. They highlight the main ingredient in its authenticity, there are no flavour or scent enhancers or stabilisers added to the products. I love to say that the products of Muhu Jäätise Wabrik are full of children s iridescent laughter and love for the simplest and most sincere.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by life itself – mostly nature. Because of that, I am never bored, the symbiosis of
nature and humans is so interesting. It is interesting talking to older people, as their lives are
visible on their faces. It is interesting to see how life does not pass you by but goes through you.
Why do you love living on the island?
I love living in Muhu as my husband brought me here. I would have gone anywhere in the world with him – so Muhu it is! I love nature, I have my own places and tracks which I love, it is essential to be close to the sea. I also like my neighbours, they are the best. If you need them, they’re there. If you don’t, you’ll not notice them. And one more thing, the sales personnel in Muhu Coop are the best in the world, they are lovely!
What do you love most of all?
My family and music, especially folk music.
Why is Muhu Brands the most awesome e-shop?
Because Muhu Brands joins and introduces handcrafters and other lovely people of Muhu.
